Anne Frank House Wikipedia

To get the best experience at Anne Frank House, I highly recommend reading Anne Frank House Diary or checking some relevant information online before your visit. The museum is small; you booked the time slot when purchasing the tickets. In the past, the museum sold 80% of its tickets online and the rest on the day. Another highly rated hotel is the Mr. Jordaan, just a 6-minute walk from the Anne Frank House. It offers a 24-hour front desk along with luggage storage, a continental breakfast, free wifi, all in an amazing location. Personally, I can’t say enough good things about the Hotel Mosaic City Center.

THE SECRET ANNEX EXPERIENCE

Documents and possessions belonging to the eight people who hid here are displayed in the annex, and the front of the house has been restored to its 1940s state. Anne’s original diary is displayed in the renovated 265 Prinsengracht, next door to the original hideaway. Otto devoted himself to editing and getting the diary published; it was first published in Dutch in 1947. The Anne Frank Foundation was founded, with Otto’s cooperation, in 1957, with the aim of preserving the canal house as a museum. The number of visitors was initially overwhelming, and the museum was renovated and expanded in 1999.

Inside the museum

Tucked away over the kitchen of the office and below the attic, entering the annex feels as though you’re stepping back in time to 1942. Two years later, in 1942, Otto set about arranging a what was to become the family’s famous hidden annex with the help of his colleague Hermann Van Pels. Anne turned 13 the same year and was gifted a red checked-print diary for her birthday.

More tips for visiting the Anne Frank House

The location is great as is the staff, the rooms, the value. From here, it’s just a (very scenic, especially delicious) 20-minute walk to the Anne Frank House and a 15-minute walk to Museum Square, home to the Van Gogh Museum, the world famous Rijksmuseum, and more. This 3.5-hour walking tour includes a visit to the Anne Frank House as well as an in-depth, expert-guided tour throughout the Jewish Quarter.

This will prevent you from possibly not being able to enter the museum. No tickets for the Anne Frank House unfortunately cannot be rescheduled or cancelled. It’s a great choice since it has a VR experience, is more fun for kids, and is very educational. Visiting Anne Frank House can be very emotional for some people; it’s best to do something to feel a bit more relaxed or to boost your mood. There are many good places around the museum; I’ve listed my favorite spots in the neighborhood.

When you go on the site to get your ticket you will be able to select your preferred time-slot for your visit. The museum, which opened in 1960, also includes two adjacent buildings. The Anne Frank House can only be visited with a ticket bought online for a specific time slot. The same applies to tickets for children (0-9 years old) and visitors with discount cards.

A small, but sunny front porch juts out into a modest front yard. Anne’s diary is a testament to why young people's voices matter. On April 26, 2022, The Los Angeles City Council adopted a resolution declaring May 12 to be Anne Frank Day in the City of Los Angeles. The day honors Anne, her father Otto (whose birthday is May 12), and the nearly 1.5 million children who perished during the Holocaust.

Anne Frank lived in hiding with her family in Amsterdam for two years. During this time, the family spent their daily lives tucked away in a small annex above a factory in the middle of the city. Every Tuesday at 10am CET all tickets become available for a visit six weeks later.

On her thirteenth birthday, just before they went into hiding, Anne was presented with a diary. During the two years in hiding, Anne wrote about events in the Secret Annex, but also about her feelings and thoughts. This article takes you on an intimate exploration of the site, uncovering Anne Frank’s legacy while reflecting on the unyielding relevance of her story.

They were detained at Westerbork transit camp and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Anne and her sister Margot, along with fellow annex occupant Auguste van Pels, were eventually transported to Bergen-Belsen. Anne and Margot died just a few weeks before the camp was liberated by British troops on April 15, 1945.

Anne saw Peter as a boring and dull person at first but the two soon became good friends, they even shared their first kiss in Peter’s bedroom. Anne’s room was her space in the house, but she had to share it with the dentist Fritz Pfeffer. In August 1944 the family’s worst fears became a reality. The Gestapo turned up at the premises and their hiding place was given away. The family’s belongings were taken by the Nazis and all of the residents of the Secret Annex were deported. The house was left in a bad state in the years following the end of World War II, but it was thankfully saved from demolition and a museum was established in the late 1950s.

The museum is a subdued place where each of the rooms feel personal and authentic. You are able to get closer to the life of the diarist through a selection of photographs, quotes, videos and other very personal elements such as pencil lines on the wall measuring the family’s height. Visiting means not only learning about Anne’s story but being surrounded by the rooms she lived in allows her tale to come to life. Since it was first published, the diary has solid many millions of copies and has been translated in over 70 languages.

Right outside the museum is one of the stops of the many Amsterdam Canal tours too. There is not enough room to store any large luggage and larger bags are not allowed inside the museum. It is not allowed to take Anne Frank House photos once you are inside the museum. The ban on photography is aimed at preserving the respectful atmosphere inside the museum.
